Long Island’s campaign for immigration reform got well under way last week with Thursday’s rally by dozens of immigration reform supporters at Senator Schumer’s office. This Friday, the next event in the campaign will take place in Hempstead when immigrant workers begin a nine day walk to Washington in anticipation of the big March 21 rally in D.C. for comprehensive immigration reform.

The walk will begin on March 12 at 10 AM at the Home Depot in Hempstead. The Workplace Project, which is organizing the walk,  is asking immigrant rights supporters to meet in the Home Depot parking lot to see the walkers off and to rally for immigration reform.

The Long Island Immigrant Alliance will be running buses to Washington for those of you too tired to walk to the March 21 rally. Call the Alliance at 631-789-0720 to reserve a seat. Tickets are only $20.

Send an e-mail to Senator Schumer in support of immigration reform.
